Cooking with Kids: Frozen Fun

Some frozen treats you can create with your kids.

Watermelon Bombe
1 pt. Lime sherbet
1 pt. Pineapple sherbet
2 pt. Raspberry sherbet
Chocolate chips

Line a rounded bowl with foil. Apply a thin layer of lime sherbet around the edge of the bowl. Let harden. Apply a thin layer of pineapple sherbet on top of the lime sherbet. Freeze. Fill the hollow left in the middle with raspberry sherbet to the top of the bowl. Let freeze 5 hours. Turn bowl upside down over a plate and slide the sherbet out of the bowl. Remove foil and cut into wedges. Poke chocolate chips into the raspberry sherbet for the watermelon seeds.

Cereal Parfait

Cold cereal
Vanilla Ice cream
Sweetened berries

Layer bottom of parfait glass with cereal. Top with ice cream. Place a layer of berries on top of the ice cream. Repeat layers.

Dirt Dessert

Chocolate sandwich cookies
Vanilla or chocolate ice cream (soften)
Gummy worms
Rock-looking candy
Cups or a flower pot (clean)

Blend cookies into a fine powder. Place a layer of the cookie powder on the bottom of the pot or cup. Blend some "worms" and "rocks" into the ice cream and place a layer over the cookies. Continue layering ending with the cookie powder. If desired, you can insert a plastic straw into the middle of the cup or pot. Insert the stem of a flower into the straw.

Juice snow

Pour fruit juice into a 9 x 13" pan and place in the freezer. Every half-hour to an hour "rake" the juice with the tines of a fork. This creates fine snow-like ice.
